How to Equip an Office Canteen in Germany Your Team Will Actually Use

A practical guide to equipping a company canteen or team kitchen in Germany: the four zones to plan, series you can reorder for years, and how LUSINI handles business orders.

On a new team’s first day, everyone notices the coffee machine. By month three, what they talk about is lunch. A proper staff canteen, or even a well-equipped team kitchen, is one of the few workplace perks people use every single day, and it shapes how the office feels more than another beanbag ever will.

The trick is to equip it like the professionals do. Homeware shops sell kitchen kit for four people. A canteen needs kit for forty, used twice a day and run through a commercial dishwasher every evening.

In Germany, LUSINI is one of the suppliers built for exactly that. It equips restaurants, hotels and catering businesses, and it has a dedicated Kantine section for company canteens and Betriebsrestaurants, covering the kitchen, the serving counter, the dining room and the service team in one place.

Why office kitchens wear out so fast

Most office kitchens are stocked once, from a homeware store, and then slowly fall apart. Plates chip. Mugs walk off to meeting rooms and never come back. Six months later the cupboard holds three different patterns and nothing matches.

Canteen equipment is designed for the opposite situation: high volume, daily use and fast cleaning. LUSINI describes its canteen range as durable professional kit for smooth workflows and efficient food service, and it sells much of it in series and large packs so that a growing team can keep adding matching pieces.

That’s the real difference. You’re buying a system you can extend, not a one-off set.

Four zones, four shopping lists

The easiest way to plan a canteen is to split it the way LUSINI’s canteen section does, into four zones. Each one has its own priorities.

The kitchen. Efficiency and hygiene come first. LUSINI points to gastronorm (GN) containers, cooking pots, pans, baking trays and knives for preparing large quantities, and recommends durable, dishwasher-safe materials so cleaning stays quick.

The serving counter. This is where a lunch rush is won or lost. Buffet systems, drink dispensers and serving utensils keep the queue moving and make the food look appealing at the same time.

The dining room. Robust canteen tableware, durable chairs and space-saving tables. LUSINI’s point here is that a modern canteen should feel inviting as well as functional, so people actually want to sit down rather than eat at their desks.

Service and staff. If you employ kitchen or service staff, LUSINI’s workwear range covers both kitchen and front-of-house clothing, designed for comfort, freedom of movement and a consistent look.

Buy series that you can still reorder in five years

Breakage is guaranteed in a busy canteen, so the most useful question to ask about any plate or glass is whether you’ll be able to buy the same one later.

LUSINI answers that with its Nachkauf-Service, a reorder guarantee. For selected series from its own brands VEGA and PULSIVA, products marked with the reorder icon stay available to buy again for three or five years, depending on the brand and product group. Pick tableware, cutlery and glasses from those series and a broken plate in year four is simply a reorder, not a reason to replace the whole set.

The canteen section also highlights value packs and large packs, which suit an office that needs dozens of the same item from day one.

The digital side of the canteen

For a tech company, the interesting part is that a hospitality supplier now thinks about software as well as saucepans. On its services page, LUSINI lists digital consulting through its partner gastro-beratung.de, which advises businesses on digitalisation.

It also features LOKBEST, a software solution for unstaffed, digital in-store shopping that can stay open 24/7. For an office, that idea maps neatly onto a self-service snack and drinks point that works outside canteen hours, without anyone behind a till.

You don’t need any of this to run a good canteen. But it’s useful to know the supplier can help if your plans go further than plates and pans.

Ordering as a business, not a household

Buying for a company is a different process from buying for a home, and LUSINI is set up for it. Choose to shop as a business customer and prices are shown without VAT. There’s no minimum order value for business customers, and LUSINI says follow-up deliveries for backordered items ship at no extra cost.

Paying by invoice. Business orders can be paid on account with 21 days to pay, subject to a credit check. Visa and Mastercard are accepted too.

Delivery when it suits you. LUSINI offers a 24-hour express service, delivery on a requested date, and a choice between partial deliveries and one complete delivery, which helps when the canteen opens on a fixed day.

Help with the heavy lifting. A furniture assembly service sets up tables and chairs and takes the packaging away. A sample service lets you check materials and colours before you commit, and LUSINI’s field sales team advises by phone or on site.

Your logo on the crockery. LUSINI’s personalisation service can add a company logo to textiles, porcelain and glasses. For an employer brand, a branded mug in every photo from the office kitchen is hard to beat.

One note on scale. If your team shares a small kitchenette and eats lunch out, a few well-chosen pieces may be all you need, and LUSINI’s minimum order of €20 for private customers doesn’t apply to business accounts anyway. The full canteen range comes into its own once you’re feeding a team every day.

Getting money back on every canteen order

A canteen is never finished. There are always more cups, another set of trays, new chairs for the new hires. LUSINI rewards that with a bonus programme for regular customers: once your annual spend reaches €2,500, you earn a bonus of between 3% and 10% on that year’s orders, depending on how much you spend.

The bonus is calculated at the end of the year and credited to your customer account, and you can use it to pay your next invoice. Signing up is free, by email or phone.

Put it together and you have a canteen that’s equipped once, extended easily, reordered from the same series for years, and slowly paying some of its own costs back. Check current prices and value packs on the LUSINI site before you build your list, then give your team a lunch break worth staying in for.
